перечитала второй и третий том кинговской Тёмной Башни, в первый раз в оригинале, потому что было лень искать нужный перевод) На английском прекрасные места по-прежнему так же прекрасны, а фраза, в свое время оч запавшая в душу в переводе, в оригинале оказалась значительно более nuanced.
На русском было "Вина всегда лежит в одном месте -- на плечах человека достаточно слабого, чтобы нести её"
Оригинал: Fault always lies in the same place: with him weak enough to lay blame.

параллельно с "Александром Гамильтоном" (книшкой) читаю автобиографию Франклина и роман Джеффа Шаары Rise to Rebellion на ту же тему)

Из Rise to Rebellion, сцена где Джефферсона вконец достали редакторские правки от Франклина и Адамса, и Франклин его утешает историей на тему, мне лично известную под названием "столб - это хорошо отредактированная ёлка" ))

Допересматриваю Have Gun Will Travel. божесука какое оно прекрасное Каждый раз прям получаю нечеловеческое удовольствие от бесконечного потока цитат отовсюду)
В одной из серий Паладин slightly misquotes (что с ним бывает редко) Монтеня: Man does not need the mortar of truth to seal up the private prisons of his fear. (ну там по контексту уж больно хорошо ложицца))
В оригинале (лол, переводе оригинала) на самом деле Man does not need the mortar of truth to seal up the private prisons of his mind.
У Ежи Леца на эту же тему по-моему, лучше: Прорехи в мысли трудно залатать действительностью.

Про Двенадцатого Доктора и всякое)

Четаю книжку Юваля Харари Sapiens, A Brief History of Humankind. Дошла до главы про империи, и натыкаюсь на следующий пассаж:

When Romans invaded Scotland in AD 83, they were met by fierce resistance from local Caledonian tribes, and reacted by laying waste to the country. In reply to Roman peace offers, the chieftain Calgacus called the Romans “the ruffians of the world” and said that “to plunder, slaughter and robbery they give the lying name of empire, they make a desert and call it peace”

Чо-то, думаю, оно мне напоминает очень сильно. Подумав, понимаю что серию из Доктора Кто, где они ищут пропавший Девятый легион, а находят много трупов, кучку кельтов и парочку монстров. Кельтская девица во главе кучки говорит буквально следующее:

добралась

таки до Manhunt'a, но отвлеклась на дочитывание Team Of Rivals с тем чтобы вспомнить кто такой Эдвин Стэнтон)) И хорошо что отвлеклась потому что у него очень интересная (как и у всех героев книги, чоуж) backstory до того как он стал не то что даже при Линкольне Secretary of War, а при Бьюкенене генеральным прокурором. Вполне себе трагическая, как тогда носили, и всё такое. Опять же страстные письма Чейзу, как тоже тогда носили)
про сам сериал: Стэнтон оч хорош, но на себя не похож совсем)) Facial hair блин испортил их)) В смысле, из всех главных действующих лиц у Линкольна есть его бородка, а у его убийцы - усы. Всем остальным - фиг, хотя у того же Стэнтона была вполне себе окладистая борода)) Зато оч исторически достоверная вашингтонская грязища, да.
из внизапного, хотя не то чтобы сильно удивительного: Доктор Мадд, которого ещо какие-то 90 лет назад Голливуд изображал невинной жертвой осужденной за акт сострадания и вообще американским Питером Бладом (за минусом пиратства, но с не меньшим романтиццским флёром). В Manhunt'e он расист, абьюзер и вообще говнюк зато с исторически достоверной бородой, бгг

отсталые слои населения

посмотрели прошлогоднего Мастера и Маргариту. Ну чо, не очень аккуратно сделанная вариация на тему.

Зачем-то эти диалоги на разнообразных нерусских языках, монотонно переводимые за кадром (субтитры сделать руки отвалятся что ли?) Зачем-то Иешуа говорит с Пилатом на латыни вместо греческого, который указан у Булгакова, и чотко называет его procurator, а переводчик за кадром говорит "игемон", втф.

Ужасно дублированный немецкий актёр играющий Воланда и его прототипа. Неужели совсем в дубляж разучились?( А так неплохой Воланд, своеобразный.
Зачем-то третий слой про собственно Булгакова, сидящего в дурке, и наблюдающего за Мастером и Иванушкой. А так неплохой Булгаков-Мастер, фактурный и даже с некоторым портретным сходством.

Зачем-то снято в колористике а-ля Матрица - темно и холодно. Сгенерённая на компьютере Москва из дурного мегаломаньячного сна.
Сгенерённый на компьютере Бегемот породы мейн кун, стеснительно бормочущий себе под нос (может, чтобы было меньше похоже на соответствующего персонажа из Шрека?)

От Ершалаима остались рожки да ножки, а именно лингвистически перевранный первый диалог и два крошечных кусочка (с Голгофой, секунд на 20 и с Афранием, без начала и конца, секунд на 40).

Но как вариация на тему смерти и рейха из гавна и палок - вопщем актуально.

It has often been surmised that the trial of More represents the defeat of the individual conscience by the forces of the emerging nation-state, but that is profoundly to misunderstand his position. Conscience was not for More simply or necessarily an individual matter; as Lord Chancellor he had been charged with the application of conscience to law, but upon general and traditional principles. At his trial he was affirming the primacy of law itself, as it had always been understood. He asserted the laws of God and of reason, as they had been inherited, and he simply did not believe that the English parliament could repeal the ordinances of a thousand years. It is significant that he was found to be guilty because of that conversation with Rich in which he ‘put the case’. He was in that sense condemned for acting like a lawyer and, at the trial itself, he was also convicted for maintaining traditional law. He embodied law all his life, and he died for it.

Досмотрела

"Пустую корону", Хиддлстон это просто идеальный кастинг для Генриха V. Джереми Айронс со своим лицом про Внутренний Конфликт и Уныние тоже оч хорош в качестве папаши Генриха IV, но Хиддлс - само совершенство.

Единственная претензия к кастингу - в Генрихах Четвертом и Пятом сквозных персонажей играют одни и те же актёры, а вот в Ричарде Втором и Генрихе Четвертом собственно Генриха играют два разных актера, и я с одной стороны понимаю почему (на роль умученного ответственностью венценосца Айронс идеально годится, а вот на роль молодого внезапного узурпатора - не очень). Но с другой стороны, бубубу.

Кстате, Шекспир и его poetic lisense, бубубу. Генри Перси, сын маминой подруги, которого унылый Айронс папаша Генрих ставит в укор беспутному сынуле, и такой типа, небось этих двоих в колыбели подменили -- в реальности был на двадцать лет старше принца Хэла

Думаю отвлечься от английского средневековья и посмотреть свеженький американский Manhunt. Не знаю чо уж смогли выжать из истории поимки Джона Уилкса Бута, но с другой стороны, любимый период, фседела)
