Подарочки считай уже почти все припасла.
Квартира убрана... мнээ, местами. Но ещо есть время!
Из чтива на каникулы есть роман из жизни питтсбургских сталеваров и (надеюсь амазон успеет прислать до нового года) другой роман про скаута и друга апачей, плюс мемуары Гранта, плюс Хэмметта "Стеклянный ключ" (потому что кино с Лэддом было более чем прекрасное), плюс если вдруг захочется напрячь мозги, то Liebe Deine Nächsten Ремарка в оригинале (потому что кино с Фордом и Марчем)
На посмотреть из свеженького (в смысле несмотренного, лол) - дюжина фильмов с Фредриком Марчем (с 30-х по 60-е) и Шрека первые две серии на пересмотреть.
Для здорового образа жизни - лыжи, если не потает всё внезапно. Если потает - то фиг с ним, с образом))

внизапно про Шермана. Хотя вопщем, увы, не очень внизапна. Fascinating stuff, I just wish it wasn't also disturbingly relevant.
Ну и фсё-таки справедливости ради, спин - спином, но Грант таки подписал приказ про "crows flying over it for the balance of this season will have to carry their provender with them," правда, это про Шенандоа в частности и Вирджинию вообще, но какбэ стратегия ясна как день, как ни назови, хоть total war, хоть что.

Меня с деццтва, спасибо братьям Стругацким, занимал вопрос "путешествий в изображаемое настоящее" (с), и вот. Фильм по Ремарку, снятый в 1941 году.
Перед тем как скачать, глянула аннотацию в англовикипедии, пишут, мол по роману Ремарка Flotsam, я такая тупо думаю, странно, вот прям совсем не помню у него такой книшки))) Начинаю смотреть и на второй минуте понимаю, что это "Возлюби ближнего своего". А на пятой вижу идеального Йозефа Штайнера, вот как если бы мне мозги просканировали на эту тему.
Это Фредрик Марч,тот самый Фредрик Марч который играл легкомысленного идиота в комедии про богемный тройничок, как, карл, он это делает и теперь я знаю чью фильмографию я буду смотреть в новогодние каникулы

1. Джеймс Стюарт - самый гениальный (диапазон от "я беззащитный зайчик" до "я убью тебя голыми руками и закопаю твой труп в пустыне потому что так будет правильно" за примерно ноль секунд по желанию)
2. Гэри Купер - самый обаятельный и relatable (я не знаю как он это делает, и судя по всему никто не знал, но обаяния хватило чтобы его друган Хэм написал под него книжку)))
3. Грегори Пек - cамый красивый. hands down.
4. Джон Уэйн - самый американский (со всеми плюсами и минусами it implies)

For myself, I was bitterly opposed to the measure, and to this day regard the war, which resulted, as one of the most unjust ever waged by a stronger against a weaker nation. It was an instance of a republic following the bad example of European monarchies, in not considering justice in their desire to acquire additional territory. Texas was originally a state belonging to the republic of Mexico. Before long, however, the same people—who with permission of Mexico had colonized Texas, and afterwards set up slavery there, and then seceded as soon as they felt strong enough to do so—offered themselves and the State to the United States, and in 1845 their offer was accepted. The occupation, separation and annexation were, from the inception of the movement to its final consummation, a conspiracy to acquire territory out of which slave states might be formed for the American Union.
Even if the annexation itself could be justified, the manner in which the subsequent war was forced upon Mexico cannot. The fact is, annexationists wanted more territory than they could possibly lay any claim to, as part of the new acquisition. Texas, as an independent State, never had exercised jurisdiction over the territory between the Nueces River and the Rio Grande. Mexico had never recognized the independence of Texas, and maintained that, even if independent, the State had no claim south of the Nueces. I am aware that a treaty, made by the Texans with Santa Anna while he was under duress, ceded all the territory between the Nueces and the Rio Grande; but he was a prisoner of war when the treaty was made, and his life was in jeopardy. He knew, too, that he deserved execution at the hands of the Texans, if they should ever capture him. The Texans, if they had taken his life, would have only followed the example set by Santa Anna himself a few years before, when he executed the entire garrison of the Alamo and the villagers of Goliad.
In taking military possession of Texas after annexation, the army of occupation, under General Taylor, was directed to occupy the disputed territory. The army did not stop at the Nueces and offer to negotiate for a settlement of the boundary question, but went beyond, apparently in order to force Mexico to initiate war. It is to the credit of the American nation, however, that after conquering Mexico, and while practically holding the country in our possession, so that we could have retained the whole of it, or made any terms we chose, we paid a round sum for the additional territory taken; more than it was worth, or was likely to be, to Mexico. To us it was an empire and of incalculable value; but it might have been obtained by other means. The Southern rebellion was largely the outgrowth of the Mexican war. Nations, like individuals, are punished for their transgressions. We got our punishment in the most sanguinary and expensive war of modern times.

По случайному совпадению (досматриваю фильмографии Гэри Купера и Алана Лэдда, фильмы про войну как правило смотрю в последнюю очередь ибо) посмотрела подряд два фильма про вторую мировую, один про американские авианосцы, другой про британских десантников)
Может, у меня память плохая, но первое что бросается в глаза в послевоенных англо-фильмах про войну по сравнению с советскими — это фокус на том, как у них всё было фигово в смысле техники, оснащения и вообще боеготовности (ну если не считать патриотизма, с которым ясное дело всё хорошо). Первые авианосцы были с крошечной палубой (или как там эта хрень называется), на которую должны теоретически садиться бипланы (бипланы, Карл, которые ветром с этой палубы сдувает на раз!). Ну, к войне стало с этим получше, но зато их было всего несколько штук, to quote: "We end up searching the whole ocean with one carrier" говорит один чувак сразу после Перл Харбора, когда соответственно даже найти врага было проблемой. А это уже прям во время войны - парашюты у десантников, которые периодически вместо того чтобы раскрыться, сворачивались в сосульку и капец (называлось Roman candle, явление как таковое и соответствующий глагол: ”He Roman candled.”)
Второе, где-то умилительное: очень сходное отношение к американцам и ихнему ленд-лизу, в Англии и в СССР (про СССР сужу по «Повести о настоящем человеке» ибо с деццтва помню близко к тексту)

Да, кино про британских (и не очень) десантников дополнительно интересно тем что это был дебют дуэта Альберт Брокколи — Теренс Янг, родителей киношного Джеймса Бонда. Дебют вышел удачный)
Кстати о дебютах, в фильме с Купером помимо Купера засветился Энтерпрайз, прям ага, USS Enterprise. Не под командованием капитана Кирка, а тот который один из предшественников, тоже авианосец, несколько получше тех корыт на которые садились бипланы, еле-еле уцелевший во время атаки на Перл Харбор. И тут я типа внизапна осознал - вот где подлинная политкорректность: когда начинали снимать Стар Трек, еще были живы-здоровы люди служившие на этом самом Энтерпрайзе, а Родденбери взял и сделал одного офицера японцем (исполнитель коей роли кстати успел во время войны вместе с родителями посидеть в лагере для перемещенных лиц). Это вам не щас нанимать на главную роль одноногую черную лесбиянку.
Напоследок филологическое, ещё раз поразилась: ну блин как англофоны обходятся без слова «свои» или блин хотя бы «наши», ну неудобно же! В том же фильме про авианосцы есть момент (почти сразу после Перл Харбора, народ плохо соображал вообще где чего) когда американский корабль начинает шмалять крупнокалиберными по американским же самолётам, и дальше следует приказ, and I quote:
“Cease firing! Cease firing! They are friendly!”
“Friendly” as the closest equivalent for свои. Fascinating, как сказал бы Спок ХД
Да, если вдруг кому надо:

Может, у меня память плохая, но первое что бросается в глаза в послевоенных англо-фильмах про войну по сравнению с советскими — это фокус на том, как у них всё было фигово в смысле техники, оснащения и вообще боеготовности (ну если не считать патриотизма, с которым ясное дело всё хорошо). Первые авианосцы были с крошечной палубой (или как там эта хрень называется), на которую должны теоретически садиться бипланы (бипланы, Карл, которые ветром с этой палубы сдувает на раз!). Ну, к войне стало с этим получше, но зато их было всего несколько штук, to quote: "We end up searching the whole ocean with one carrier" говорит один чувак сразу после Перл Харбора, когда соответственно даже найти врага было проблемой. А это уже прям во время войны - парашюты у десантников, которые периодически вместо того чтобы раскрыться, сворачивались в сосульку и капец (называлось Roman candle, явление как таковое и соответствующий глагол: ”He Roman candled.”)
Второе, где-то умилительное: очень сходное отношение к американцам и ихнему ленд-лизу, в Англии и в СССР (про СССР сужу по «Повести о настоящем человеке» ибо с деццтва помню близко к тексту)

Да, кино про британских (и не очень) десантников дополнительно интересно тем что это был дебют дуэта Альберт Брокколи — Теренс Янг, родителей киношного Джеймса Бонда. Дебют вышел удачный)
Кстати о дебютах, в фильме с Купером помимо Купера засветился Энтерпрайз, прям ага, USS Enterprise. Не под командованием капитана Кирка, а тот который один из предшественников, тоже авианосец, несколько получше тех корыт на которые садились бипланы, еле-еле уцелевший во время атаки на Перл Харбор. И тут я типа внизапна осознал - вот где подлинная политкорректность: когда начинали снимать Стар Трек, еще были живы-здоровы люди служившие на этом самом Энтерпрайзе, а Родденбери взял и сделал одного офицера японцем (исполнитель коей роли кстати успел во время войны вместе с родителями посидеть в лагере для перемещенных лиц).
Напоследок филологическое, ещё раз поразилась: ну блин как англофоны обходятся без слова «свои» или блин хотя бы «наши», ну неудобно же! В том же фильме про авианосцы есть момент (почти сразу после Перл Харбора, народ плохо соображал вообще где чего) когда американский корабль начинает шмалять крупнокалиберными по американским же самолётам, и дальше следует приказ, and I quote:
“Cease firing! Cease firing! They are friendly!”
“Friendly” as the closest equivalent for свои. Fascinating, как сказал бы Спок ХД

Оскорбить, но элегантно:
It did seem to me, in my early army days, that too many of the older officers, when they came to command posts, made it a study to think what orders they could publish to annoy their subordinates and render them uncomfortable. I noticed, however, a few years later, when the Mexican war broke out, that most of this class of officers discovered they were possessed of disabilities which entirely incapacitated them for active field service. They had the moral courage to proclaim it, too. They were right; but they did not always give their disease the right name.

а кто сегодня на лыжах выполз в парк тот я))) хоть бы не растаяло в ближайшие дни, прям почти идеально всё (чуть-чуть липнет, но у меня есть воск)) Покаталась меньше часа, ручки-ножки слегка тряслись, но вопщем хорошо)))
